Tenzin Peljor, Editor in Chief

Today, Tenzin Peljor added a post on his blog about fundamentalism in Buddhism. He copied a statement from the Wikipedia article on the fundamentalism page about Buddhism. Just today, there was an edit on the fundamentalism page of Wikipedia and the section about the Dorje Shugden controversy and the New Kadampa Tradition was added (see the history). Interestingly, the section contains a lot of content from Tenzin Peljor’s favorite book ‘Buddhism in Britain’ by David N. Kay. I found a lot of coincidences here. So I looked to see if any other similar edits were made on Wikipedia with the same IP address (79.171.63.246). All of the edits from that IP address were made to pages related to the New Kadampa Tradition and the Dorje Shugden controversy.  So I looked it up to find out the location of the IP address online. The IP address is based in Italy. Tenzin Peljor is currently in Italy studying on the FPMT Master Study Program.

Does anyone other than me think that the mysterious editor of this page on fundamentalism is Tenzin Peljor?

Tenzin says this about the new addition to Wikipedia on his blog:

The section of the Wikipedia article on fundamentalism regarding Buddhism has been repeatedly deleted – probably by followers of the NKT – however the quotes and material are based on reliable sources and the section is balanced.

This section did not exist on the fundamentalism page before today. This is obvious, by looking at the history of the pages edits. This section is also very unbalanced since the author is just trying to spread negative views about the NKT on the internet. David Kay (Tenzin’s source) has a disgruntled history with the NKT. His book is not a nuetral or reliable source. Tenzin Peljor is the author of at least two thirds of the smears of the NKT on the web.

The FPMT’s Restrictions on Dorje Shugden Practitioners

New article from the New Kadampa Truth site:

From the FPMT website: “Restriction: FPMT has recently issued a new policy regarding the Shugden practice in accordance with the wishes of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Lama Zopa Rinpoche has expressed the wish “not to have a guru-disciple relationship with anyone who is practicing Shugden.”

Since Lama Zopa is still the nominal head of the FPMT, this means that Tibetan politics has now irreversibly permeated the FPMT. It means that not even Lama Zopa’s precious teachers, Trijang Rinpoche or Lama Yeshe, or their reincarnations, would be allowed to attend Lama Zopa’s teachings.

FPMT members have long accused the NKT of being a sectarian cult. The irony is that the NKT is an open and tolerant organization that has never turned anyone away from a teaching due to their religious beliefs. This religious belief is the 400-year old practice passed down through generations of fully accomplished Buddhist masters, including half the lineage Gurus of the FPMT.

Meanwhile, it is unclear whether or not Lama Osel (the reincarnation of Lama Yeshe) would countenance this latest extraordinary development. He has kept his distance from the FPMT for the last few years. The de facto head of the FPMT is now the Dalai Lama.

Lama Zopa has said this about himself and Lama Yeshe, the Founder of the FPMT:

“Of course, Lama and I practiced Dorje Shugden for many years. That was always the main thing that Lama did whenever there were problems to overcome. At the beginning of every Kopan course, Lama always did Shugden puja to eliminate hindrances.”

Smear: Manjushri Institute was Stolen from the FPMT

This smear is mainly spread by Tenzin Peljor. He’s stated this smear on several websites including Wikipedia under the name Kt66. Finally, a detailed explanation of how the Manjushri Institute separated from the FPMT is available on the internet for anyone who is confused about this history of events.

The refutation of this smear from the New Kadampa Truth website:

Truth: Geshe Kelsang was the first Resident Teacher at Manjushri Institute. He later accepted Lama Yeshe’s request for him to step down and had made plans to return to India and then to live at Madhyamaka Centre in York. However, the community at Manjushri all petitioned him to stay.

The community of Manjushri Institute wished to save their building, Conishead Priory, from being sold to make funds available for suspect business dealings in Hong Kong. This meant they needed to separate from the FPMT. On the other hand, they wished Lama Yeshe to stay as their Spiritual Director. After continual discussions on how to solve the problem, also involving two representatives from the Dalai Lama, the Institute’s managers – then called the ‘Priory Group’ – decided to take steps to separate Manjushri Institute from FPMT.
